In 1994 there was a big push for cities around the world to cooperate on economic and cultural initiatives. This is when representatives from Ansan and Las Vegas visited each other's cities and established connections. In Las Vegas, Ansan Sister City Park was created on a large tract of land in a residential area in Las Vegas City. In kind on a smaller tract of land the city of Ansan transformed one of their parks into Las Vegas Sister City Park. The parks were the bulk of the sister city program as the program was cancelled a few years later when small groups of animal rights protesters asked for Las Vegas to withdraw from the agreement due to the presence of dog farms in the city of Ansan. Ansan City felt no obligations to keep the Las Vegas park name and changed all official records of the park's existence. It is now known simply as Ildong Park or Neighborhood One Park. The only remnants of the old agreement are a plaque in the shape of Las Vegas and a large sign above the playground that says Las Vegas in Korean.
