Parihaka Alternative Track To The Top
The Goetzee track and forestry tracks on the north eastern flanks of Mt Parihaka form part of the Parihaka half marathon route. Whilst they are used by good numbers of fitness enthuiasts as a nice training route away from the traffic, not many of the general public are aware of this alternative track up to the memorial.
This trail of 8 caches ( plus Spider Junction and The Gimp Fun Guy near the top ) makes a great reason for cachers to explore this area and pick up some mostly easy numbers for their stats. The trail can be done in either direction, with good parking at either end. If you were really organised and wanted to avoid the uphill trek, you could get dropped off at the top and take a nice gentle stroll down to the bottom pick up point.
At one time, this corner was the site for some bee hives and it's possible it may be used again for this pupose in the future. Cache should be far enough away from any hive placement though. Please keep a watch out for exercise junkies and rehide carefully as found.
