Edinburgh Multiversity: Books In A Bar... Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

LinguiJosh: It was a short life for this cache, but I can't quite see any ways to easily replace this in such a way that it will remain for a while.

I've got more caches listed and planned though, so no need to fret too much!

But time to say goodbye to this one for now.

Geocache Description:

As with all good multicaches, the cache is not at the posted coordinates. Going to these co-ordinates will, however, land you right in the middle of the University of Edinburgh's Central Campus. Bristo Square, where a hive (actually, Hive is just down the road...) of great, intelligent young minds from around the world come together to contribute to advancements - technological, entrepreneurial, educational, mathematical, and, as in this case, geocachical - to the world around them. Sometimes though, when we've scratched our head a little bit too much pondering over the implications of sociolinguistic hypercorrective behaviour within homogenous communicative societies, or debated endlessly about the necessity of Euclidean rotoreflective hypotheses with relation to orthogonal matrices... we just want a meal and a pint. You may need one as well just from reading that last sentence...

That is why I have brought you to Teviot Row House. The oldest purpose built student union in the world. It has 6 bars, a roof terrace, a café, a nightclub, and, more often than not, students such as myself wondering how to both buy food and save money to pay for a quarter of our rent... small Edinburgh joke there. Anyhow, given the nature of where you are... and how I've created this multi (!), it is very likely you'll need to stop off in the Library Bar for something to eat and drink whilst toiling over the co-ordinates. Let's just say, it may take you right back to your school days...!

Now for the fun part!

The final co-ordinates for this cache are in the format:

N55°AB.CDE

W 003°FG.HJK

Before doing anything, write down the year shown on the red and yellow sign to follow the format PQRS. You will still need the sign hereafter (and may wish to take a picture of it to possibly make it a little easier).

For the North co-ordinates... you will just need some arithmetic.

A =(0.75(S-P)) - P

B = Q - (P+(S-R))

C = D = E = (((Q*S)-((S+P)/5)) / 2A)

For the West co-ordinates, you'll need to think about the words themselves!

F = G = The number of <V> on the entire sign

H = (The number of plural nouns on the entire sign) - (The number of definite articles on the entire sign)

J = The number of orthographic consonants on the third line

K = The number of letters in the first word on the third line

Now add 10 to the West coordinates. And you’re ready to go hunt!

Hopefully they weren't too taxing!

At your final location, you will be looking for a small micro. Please replace exactly as you found it. Moreover, please bear in mind that this can be a VERY student - sorry, muggle - heavy area at times, so do be extra careful when placing and retrieving. Who knows, you may even come across me heading to a lecture!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ELPTH FOR GETTING FTF!
