Huajing Xincheng is the only station in the Guangzhou BRT corridor where a pre-existing pedestrian bridge was used, because the bridge at this station had been fairly recently built with elevators installed shortly before the start of the BRT construction in late 2008. Other pedestrian bridges including at Gangding, Tangxia, Tangdong and Chebei were torn down and replaced with better steel-span bridges as part of the BRT implementation.
Huajing Xincheng is also the first station along the BRT corridor, from the city centre to the west, to have a street-level pedestrian crossing. Coordination of the pedestrian crossing with the nearby Tianfu Lu intersection means that the street level crossing, even in such a major corridor, has no negative impact on traffic flows. The combination of a bridge and street level crossing and the connection of the bridge to the mall on the south makes this a convenient station for passengers to access.
Unfortunately the older bridge structure was considered not suitable for retrofitting shade, so the bridge remains exposed to the elements. (Shade covers were installed on all of the other bridges a couple of years after the system opened.)
