Antonym
Et antonym (fra gresk; anti = 'mot' og onoma = 'navn') er et ord som har motsatt betydning av et annet ord. Ord kan ha flere forskjellige antonymer. Både liten og kort er antonymer til lang. Det motsatte av et antonym er et synonym (antonym og synonym er antonymer).
Det finnes tre typer antonymer:
Graderbare antonymer – ordpar som uttrykker motsetninger langs en skala, slik som opp og ned
Komplementære antonymer – ordpar som er gjensidig utelukkende, slik som død og levende
Relasjonelle antonymer – ordpar der de to ordene beskriver forholdet mellom to objekter sett fra hver sin synsvinkel, slik som foreldre og barn, lærer og elev.
Attributter har en helt annen betydning.

Antonym
An antonym (from Greek; anti = 'against' and onoma = 'name') is a word that has the opposite meaning of another word. Words can have several different antonyms. Both small and short are antonyms to long. The opposite of an antonym is a synonym (antonym and synonym are antonyms).
There are three types of antonyms:
Gradable Antonyms - word pairs that express contradictions along a scale, such as up and down
Complementary Antonyms - word pairs that are mutually exclusive, such as dead and alive
Relational Antonyms - word pairs where the two words describe the relationship between two objects viewed from different angles, such as parents and children, teacher and student.
Attributes have a completely different meaning.
