The site was owned by the Chemical Insecticide Corporation from 1958 until 1970. Testing revealed hazardous chemicals in the soil and it became a Superfund site. In 2005 a $53 million cleanup by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was completed, removing 250,000 cubic tons of soil and restoring the site to residential safety standards. In 2008, Edison Township bought the site for $1 million with money from the township's Open Space Trust Fund and a state Green Acres grant. The Dog Park opened in 2016.
