Don’t Go O.T.T.
Ott track is a popular access route into the central Mourne mountains, but the mountain from which the track has been named is bypassed by most. The view from the summit is spectacular, and you’ll probably have the place to yourself as the masses head for the Mourne Wall and beyond.
We are The Blue Eyed Pigs (long story), but we now have 2 piglets in tow. This is the first cache we put out with our kids, and we wanted to make it relatively kid-friendly. It shouldn’t be a difficult walk by mountain standards (although see the note below about being prepared…), it is not a difficult find, and there is a good starting stock of kid-friendly swaps.
Travel Bug Dog Tag, prize for FTF.
Getting there:
Most people will probably park at Ott Car Park on Slivenaman Rd., and follow Ott track East.
Make your way up to the top whatever route you choose. The cache is the usual Tab-Lock box, hidden a short distance off the summit.
Being Prepared:
We considered giving detailed information about the route and walking times etc., but this is a mountain environment and the time it takes can vary greatly depending on prevailing conditions, the fitness of your group, etc.. The assumption is you will be suitably experienced, and go suitably prepared. If you need a rough guide, we put the cache out with our 4 and 2 years olds, and it took us just under 4 hours round trip, but without kids in tow we’ve been up and back in under an hour.
