E’ da considerarsi la capitale della valle e conserva sul suo territorio importanti edifici realizzati secondo lo stile Liberty.
I maggiori esempi sono il Grand Hotel, il Casinò e il Municipio.
Sono un bell’esempio Liberty anche tutte le stazioni della ex ferrovia della valle Brembana, con la loro presenza in tutti i paesi di fondo valle serviti dalla vecchia ferrovia elettrificata.
Già nel XVIII secolo la cittadina si sviluppa come centro termale, grazie alle acque che sgorgano alla temperatura costante di 26 gradi.
Nel XX secolo la località si trasforma in un'elegante stazione termale. Viene creato lo Stabilimento Termale e la sua fama accresce con la costruzione del Casinò Municipale nel 1904 e del Grand Hotel nel 1905.
Lo spirito di accoglienza ha saputo nel tempo offrire anche diverse attrazioni, come la possibilità di trovare percorsi culturali lungo le vie del paese, visite guidate al Casinò e alle Grotte del Sogno, attività sportive con proposte d’acqua (canoa, rafting), di montagna (arrampicata sportiva, trekking), percorsi ciclo turistici e il tennis.

Sont un bel exemple Liberty aussi toutes les stations de l’ancien chemin de fer de la vallée brembana, avec leur présence dans tous les pays de fond vallée desservis par la vieille voie ferrée électrifiée.
