Stonewall Confederate Cemetery is the most haunted section of this cemetery. As you walk to stage 1 you will be passing by a marker for the Patton Brothers, George and Tazewell (Col. George S. Patton was the grandfather of General George S. Patton who led American forces during World War II). Visitors have noted the presence of a lone figure wearing a military greatcoat and peaked hat, the figure walks towards the marker and disappears. Legend holds that the figure may be none other than Nazi Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. During the 1930s, Rommel was one of a number of German military leaders who spent time in the area studying the military tactics of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson.
While the Confederate dead—some of whom were unknown—were buried in the cemetery here, the Union dead were buried across Woodstock Lane in the National Cemetery. People living in the area and passersby just after sundown have seen grayish figures rising from this part of the cemetery and making their way across the street towards National Cemetery.
When you arrive at stage 1 you will be standing in front of a state monument that starts with the letter A, to your left is National Cemetery which will be your next stop.
What are the first two digits of the year that this monument was dedicated?
Take that number and add 70. (XX+70)=AB
After you have the answer from stage 1 it’s off to stage 2 you go.
I suppose if you were like the spirts here you could walk across the street, but since you’re not you can make the short drive to the parking coordinates for stage 2.
National Cemetery is open daily from Dawn to 5:00 p.m.
Once you’re at National Cemetery make your way to the coordinates for stage 2.
When you’re at GZ for stage 2 you should see a plaque.
What year was National Military Cemetery Established?
The first digit=C and the last digit=D
Now that you have the needed coordinates you can make the short walk to GZ for this cache.
You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.
