Geocache Description:

Every morning tens of thousands of people stream out of the ultra-dense Tangxia Village (one of 100 or so urban villages built on converted farmland in the 1980s and 1990s to house the vast influx of migrants from interior provinces taking up job opportunities in Guangzhou) and into the Tangxia Village Guangzhou Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station. Around 80% of everyone exiting Tangxia Village in the morning peak hour goes on to enter the Tangxia BRT station. In the evening the flows are reversed as residents stream back home in their tens of thousands. The station also serves passengers from the modern highrises to the south and from an older 'danwei-style' housing development north of Tangxia Village.

The combination of transit dependent ultra-dense urban village to the north and largely transit dependent (noting that the 10,000 or so apartments have only 3,000 or so car parking spaces) Junjing Huayuan (骏景花园) highrise apartment complex to the south result in massive transit demand at the Tangxia BRT station. There are few BRT stations worldwide with higher passenger demand levels.

Like Gangding station, Tangxia was designed as a 'signature' station featuring a 10m wide bridge rather than the 5m wide bridges implemented at other stations. It also features escalators at both sides and up-escalators at the station access. Tangxia, with extremely high morning boarding and evening alighting iis the mirror-image of Gangding, which has extremely high passenger boarding levels in the evening and alighting in the morning.

When the BRT system opened in February 2010 this bridge was for months lined all day with people observing the high bus flows and station operation. A much-needed shade cover was added in 2012, and on weekend evenings the bridge is still often lined with couples holding hands while taking in the views.
