Geocache Description:

This is (hopefully) a fairly easy & accessible geocaching trail, aimed particularly at families.  All caches should be easy to find. Please replace caches carefully, ready for others to find.

The trail is approximately 3.5mls/6km long & could be done as 2 shorter walks; starting at either end & turning back at your convenience.  There is ample parking at both ends & also plenty of cafes etc.

There is a BONUS CACHE associated with this trail.  To find it, you will need to make a note of the BONUS NUMBERS to be found in each of the T2CT caches.  The BONUS CACHE details can be found at GC8J5ZK.

At T2C Trail 8 there are 2 route options available

  1. Using the pedestrian gate will involve a short stretch of small stones & sand underfoot, difficult perhaps with wheelchairs or pushchairs
  2. Going straight ahead, through the large 5 bar gate, offers a firmer surface

Both options meet near the small wooden bridge (the dividing wall, between Hoathwaite Campsite & Coniston Hall Campsite) beside the Lake.

The entire route should be accessible for pushchairs & should also be okay for wheelchair users.

All caches are hidden within easy reach of the public footpath; in fact, most are reachable from the actual path. Please keep to the public right of way & avoid crossing fields or climbing walls/fences.

I always start at Torver, but the trail can be completed in either direction.  There is more uphill heading from Coniston to Torver!!

However, if you collect the bonus numbers which are hidden in each cache container, there is also a bonus cache available at the Coniston end, so this makes an ideal finishing point.

No containers are hidden in walls!!

Parking is available in Torver (Church car park – donations welcome).  There are also several large laybys further along the road towards Coniston (near the bridge).

If parking/walking near the road at Torver, please be aware it can be a very busy road & has several blind bends.  There is a footpath beside the wall, just after the bridge until the junction with the Hoathwaite Campsite turning.

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of the National Trust, who own the land.
