Welcome to my Greek Mythology Series!
Nemesis is the Greek Goddess of Divine Retribution and Revenge, daughter of Nyx, the Goddess of the Night. Any human that committed evil deeds or hubris (arrogance before the Gods) would suffer her wrath. It was Nemesis that punished Narcissus for his arrogance and contempt towards his admirers. She led him to a pool where he fell in love with his own reflection, was unable to look away and leave, and eventually withered away and died there. Nemesis is often depicted with a sword and scales, as a purveyor of justice.
