Dionysus is the Greek God of Wine and Fertility, and also a patron of the arts. He was the son of Zeus and Semele, a mortal woman. Dionysus often took the shape of a beast, and was associated with various animals. He was often depicted as youthful, and wearing an ivy wreath holding a two handled goblet. Dionysus had many female followers, known as Maenads or Bacchantes. Gatherings of Dionysus’ followers were wild parties encompassing sacred ritualistic drinking and dancing to a state of ecstasy to become closer to their God. His rituals are said to have evolved into theatre, and performances of tragedy and comedy in Athens were part of two festivals of Dinoysus, the Lenaea and the Great Dionysia.
Behind the fence is a winery – I think Dionysus would approve of being placed here! Patritti – Suburban Adelaide’s only 100% family owned, fully operational winery. I don’t know much about wine (the only kind I like is Moscato, the sweeter the better!) but this winemaker has been awarded the red five-star winery status– so that sounds like it must be good! If you like wine, maybe you should visit on when the Cellar Door is open on Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm. Otherwise I would advise getting this one under cover of darkness for stealth reasons!
