The twenty-seventh event in a series of monthly events taking place in different squares of the Dartmoor 365; the square chosen at random by pulling out a square at each event. The square pulled out for this month is M4 Wheelwright's Stone. The event will start at around 10am at the given co-ordinates for geo-chat, TB exchanging etc. People are free to come and go as they please. Skittles and I will be there until around 11am, but depending on the weather/attendees it may go on for longer.
This event is a located along the stretch of the Grimstone and Sortridge Leat on Whitchurch Common. At this point is a large stone which is thought to be a wheelwright stone, possibly linked to the nearby blacksmith that was in use during the 1870s and 80s. Despite how tranquile the area is today, during the period this wheelwright stone was in use the area was a hive of industrial activity. It is likely the blacksmith was busy working with the stone cutters from nearby Merivale.
