Geocache Description:

The grain elevators of Western Canada are sometimes lovingly referred to as "Prairie Sentinels" and we've always liked checking them out as we drive through Alberta. The old wooden ones are certainly quickly becoming extinct, so it's nice to pay homage to these old structures, which were so important to the livelihood of people "back in the day."

Crossfield still has a grain elevator, though it is of a modern design. You can see it to the West of the cache location. We couldn't find too much information about the old wooden ones which were in Crossfield, but we did come across a couple pictures of them, through the Glenbow Archives.

Please be careful handling the cache container, as it is made of porcelain (these were the only suitable containers we could find shaped the way we wanted them), and you can simply unscrew the cap at the bottom to retrieve the log.
