The Stew Art Collection has been described as a mélange, a mishmash, and a salmagundi of art installations. Each sculpture has nothing to do with the other and here they are -- mixed together to make a ghoulash of art. It is inventive in both its curatorial point of view and in the audacity of its artistic chutzpah. Nowhere else would such a collection be attempted and yet, here it is. The selection of artists for commissions is based on the advice of the Stew Art Collection Advisory Board, which is composed of two art professionals of dubious local repute and a goldfish named Fred. Artists are invited to conceive and develop proposals with no promise that anything will come of it. Many of the artists have been better known for their work in other areas before creating a sculpture for the Stew Art Collection. And given the results, they hope that they will continue to be better known for their work in other areas.
