Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches which are placed at or near village halls and community centres. For details and statistics visit the Village Hall Series website Click here

Sowerby Parochial Hall (sometimes called Sowerby Parochial Church Hall) was built in the 1930s. A major refurbishment took place in 2004/05 and a new kitchen was installed in 2019. The building is well used seven days a week.

Sowerby Parochial Hall (view from outside)

The cache is a few hundred metres from the hall.

Find the foundation stone, on an outside wall, with the inscription that starts “This stone was laid by William – Lord Archbishop of York.”

The cache is at N 54° 13.ABC W 001° 20.DEF where:

A = the number of letters in the first name of the Vicar

B = the number of letters in the last name of the Vicar

C = the first number on the stone plus the last number on the stone

D = the second number on the stone

E = the number of the letters in the last name of the Vice Chairman plus 2

F = the number of the letters in the last name of the Secretary plus 1
