Geocache Description:

The Batten family first settled this area in the late 1800s. Charles Batten was on the first divisional board, the first crown land ranger and ran the Nerang District show. The Batten family are still active in the community today.

The cache is hidden at the edge of a lovely little park on the Nerang walking trail. To find the final coordinates you'll need to read about the history of this part of Nerang.

There's plenty of parking at the first waypoint. When you arrive you'll see a plaque titled Batten Recreational Reserve. Use the information on this sign to decipher the final.

The coordinates are at S27 59.ABC E153 19.DEF

A = Add the last two numbers which make up the year Charles Batten was a member of the first Nerang Divisional Board, then add one more

B = Number of letters in the surname of the councillor who dedicated the parkland minus 2

The family first settled in Nerang in 18C5

D = Number of letters in the last word of the second last line

E = B

Dedicated F1 MARCH 2001

Bring a special tool or two to retrieve the cache. Read the attributes and take note of the D/T rating. Once you get to the general area you look for a tall paperbark next to a straight gum tree that forks at about 6m up. Do not attempt this cache after heavy rain!!!
