I have known about California Lane Park ever since we came here to play soccer with the YMCA years ago. I noticed it didn't have a cache and thought - being the little green gem that it is - it needed one.
The park is named after the road to the south. It is believed that California Lane acquired its name sometime after 1849 when early residents of Johnson Station used the road to travel west to the California gold fields. Documents also indicate it was part of an early stagecoach line that linked the settlements to forts in west Texas and ultimately California.
This park is home to an ourdoor classroom dedicated to Flo Jones. I had never heard of her until I read the plaque in the park. She was a dedicated educator, school principal, and eminent civic leader of Arlington who was instrumental in turning this part of Fort Worth into this section of Arlington by petitioning the citizens., and she helped with the transition of Arlington State to the University of Texas at Arlington. Wow! In my humble opinion, that's the kind of civic engagement we can all look up to.
This is my first cache to hide, so I did my best to keep it easy and I hope you will enjoy. There always people moving about but you should have no trouble keeping out of their field of view.
