Geocache Description:

This cache is all about Sydney Australia.  Sydney Harbor is where the famous Captain James Cook landed and and laid clam to the land in the name of England.  Sydney is where the Europeans first settled Australia.  Captain Cook beat the french by just days.  Sydney is the largest city in Australia and the capital of New South Wales.  New South Wales is one of 7 states that makes up Australia.  Sydney is a very diverse population and is estimated at 5.2 million people.

Sydney is 16 hours ahead of us in time.  Their seasons are the opposite of ours also.  So when its winter here, its summer there.  When you fly there from LA, you leave Thursday but arrive Saturday.  The twist is, when you fly back to LA ,you leave Thursday and it’s still Thursday after you land. Oh and that flight is about 15 hours long.

Sydney is rich with culture and history.  The world famous and iconic Sydney Opera House

and Sydney Harbor bridge just to name two land marks.  Sydney also has a large botanical garden, zoo, art museum, cricket stadium, rugby stadium, statues and monuments abound.  Even the oldest continuously operating bar in Australia (or two as there’s a dispute) can be found in Sydney.

Travel about Sydney is incredibly easy.  There are ferry’s, bus’s, subway, and light rails, all on one pay system, The Opal card.  Making it easy to transition from one to the other.  Traveling north or south, or from the ocean to the Blue Mountain National Park by the connected public transit system with ease.  Just an hour or so west of Sydney is the World Heritage Site, Blue Mountain’s National Park.  Weather you are there for a quick visit or serious hiking. They are a mix of the US Grand Canyon and Blue Smokey Mountains.

Did I mention there are lots of incredible caches there?!?!?!

A special shout out to those affected by the historic wild fires of Australia this past year.  Australia has been burning since August 2019.  Nearly all of their rural firefighters are volunteers.  Hopefully they will be able to snuff out the last of the fires soon.

This is a cemetery so no night cacheing only dawn to dusk!
