Cinque ciminiere ed un tripudio di tubi, cosi' Vi appare la centrale termica di mirafiori non appena la raggiungete. La Centrale Termoelettrica nasce nel 1939, anno d’inizio della costruzione del comprensorio industriale di Mirafiori. La prima sezione ad essere costruita è quella relativa alla Centrale di Alta Pressione (CAP), negli anni ’50 inizia la costruzione della Centrale di Media Pressione (CMP), nel 1979 vengono costruiti le due turbine a gas (TG16), e nel 1990 i due impianti a Ciclo Combinato (CICO).
La Centrale ha subito un graduale e significativo potenziamento dovuto alle aumentate esigenze energetiche del comprensorio industriale di Mirafiori. Negli ultimi dieci anni però i fabbisogni di energia termica ed elettrica del comprensorio sono diminuiti per stabilizzarsi negli ultimi due anni; conseguentemente sezioni della Centrale Termoelettrica non sono state più sfruttate appieno. Attualmente la Centrale di Media Pressione e i Turbogas sono utilizzati solo in caso di emergenza. Da circa cinque anni, l’energia elettrica prodotta non assorbita dal comprensorio viene venduta a terzi.
La Centrale Termoelettrica di Mirafiori utilizza come combustibile solo gas naturale ed ha una potenza termica installata pari a 586,88 MWt ed una elettrica pari a 206,88 MW.
Essa è costituita da quattro sezioni:
Media Pressione :
4 caldaie che operano a 23 Bar e 320°C, ha 3 turbine a contropressione ognuna da 4,8 MW
Alta Pressione
3 caldaie che operano a 100 Bar e 505°C, ha 2 turbine da 17 MW e una da 11,46 MW
Turbine a gas
2 Turbine dette TG16, da 19,5 MW funzionano con i fumi incombusti inviati in due caldaie con potenza di 50,88 MWt
Ciclo Combinato.
Costituito da 2 impianti,da 54 MW costituiti da una turbina a gas accoppiata ad una a vapore a condensazione. La potenza termica totale delle due caldaie e' di 96 MWt.

Five chimneys and a riot of pipes, so the Mirafiori thermal power plant appears as soon as you reach it. The thermoelectric plant was born in 1939, the year in which construction of the Mirafiori industrial area began. 4 boilers operating at 23 Bar and 320 ° C, has 3 counter-pressure turbines each of 4.8 MW
