Le 29 février est de retour! February 29 is back!
Faits intéressants concernant cette date:
- Vous avez environ une chance sur 1461 de naître le 29 février (ce fut le cas entre-autres pour le pape Paul III) mais est-ce déjà arrivé que quelqu'un soit né et décédé ce jour là? Eh oui: ce fut le cas pour James Milne Wilson, le 8e premier-ministre de la Tasmanie.
- Est-il déjà arrivé qu'on aie un 30 février? Eh oui! En Suède et en Finlande le mois de février de l'an 1712 avait 30 jours. La raison: faire concorder leur vieux calendrier Julien avec le calendrier Grégorien. Cela sans mentionner que, chez les Hobbits, tous les mois ont 30 jours!
- A-t-on déjà eu une éclipse de lune un 29 février? Oui: en 1504 et Christophe Colomb en a tiré avantage en convaincant les Jamaicains de lui fournir des réserves s'il pouvait faire disparaître la Lune.
Pour trouver la cache:
Aux coordonnées affichées vous verrez un panneau d'arrêt avec deux noms de rues. Prenez note du nom qui est le plus court des deux; vous en aurez besoin plus tard. Marchez ensuite de ce poteau vers l'est jusqu'au lampadaire le plus proche puis continuez dans la même direction jusqu'au début d'une structure métallique. Continuez votre route en longeant cette structure et en prenant soin de compter chacun des poteaux supportant la structure. Comptez tous les poteaux en bois jusqu'au premier en métal puis continuez à longer en comptant, jusqu'à ce que la racine numérique du nombre total de poteaux (bois+métal) soit la même que le nombre de lettres dans le nom que vous avez pris en note. C'est là que vous trouverez la cache, derrière le poteau en métal.
Remarque: Du stationnement sur rue est disponible mais pas directement devant la cache ou le lampadaire.
Interesting facts concerning that date:
- You have one chance out of about 1461 to be born on February 29 (Among others, pope Paul III was born on that day) but has it ever happened that someone was both born and died on that day? Turns out the answer is yes: James Milne Wilson, the eighth premier of Tasmania.
- Was there ever a February 30? Yes as well! In both Sweden and Finland, there were 30 days in February 1712. They did this to reconcile their old Gregorian calendar with the newer Julian calendar before switching to it. Of course we won't talk about the Hobbits: they only have 30-day months!
- Was there ever a lunar eclipse on February 29? Yes again: Christopher Columbus used his knowledge of a lunar eclipse that night to convince Jamaican natives to provide him with supplies.
To find the cache:
At the posted coordinates you will find a stop sign with two street names; remember the shorter one of these two names: you will need it later. Now start walking east from there towards the closest lamp post then keep walking until you arrive at a low metallic structure. Start walking along that structure, making sure to count every supporting post. Count all the wooden ones then keep walking and counting, until the digital root of the total number of posts (wood+metal) is the same as the number of letters in the name you took note of at the start. That's where you will find the cache, behind the metal post.
Note: Street parking is available but not directly in front of the cache or the lamp post.
