Dieses Hochhaus wurde 2018 von den Lesern der Pendler-Zeitung 20minuten zum hässlichsten Gebäude der Schweiz gewählt. Es löste dabei ein Wohnhaus in Schindellegi SZ ab, welches diesen Titel seit der Wahl im Jahre 2012 inne hatte - inzwischen aber abgerissen wurde. Mehr als 19'000 Stimmen erhielt das Hochhaus beim Triemli und verwies ein "Betonklotz" in Kriens LU und ein "rostiges Etwas" in Uster ZH auf die weiteren Podestplätze. Prachtbauten wie das Telli in Aarau, das Zentrum Töss in Winterthur, das Konvikt in Chur, die Gemeindeverwaltung in Emmen LU und das Spital in Wetzikon wurden als weniger hässlich eingestuft. Das Triemli-Hochhaus ist ein typisches Beispiel der Stilrichtung des sogenannten Brutalismus aus den 60er Jahren. Das dies aus heutiger Sicht im Volk auf keine Gegenliebe stösst, ist für viele Architekten unverständlich: Rudolf Guyer, der Architekt des Triemli-Hochhauses, wird zitiert: "Dass Laien das Gebäude hässlich finden, ist mir egal. Hauptsache, den anderen Architekten gefällt es." Guyer ist auch über 50 Jahre nach der Fertigstellung noch immer stolz auf sein Hochhaus: "Es gehört von unseren 170 Gebäuden, die wir entworfen haben, zu den fünf besten und ist ein Zeuge der Architektur in jener Zeit." Ein weiteres Beispiel dafür, dass manche Gebäude nichts weiteres sind als architektonische Selbstbefriedigungen?

In 2018 this apartment block was voted the ugliest building in Switzerland by the readers of the newspaper 20Minuten. It succeeded a residential building in Schindellegi SZ, which has held this title since being elected in 2012 - but has since been demolished. The multistorey building at Triemli received more than 19,000 votes, relegating a "concrete block" in Kriens LU and a "rusty something" in Uster ZH to the other podium places. Gorgeous buildings such as the Telli in Aarau, the Zentrum Töss in Winterthur, the Konvikt in Chur, the municipal administration in Emmen LU and the hospital in Wetzikon were considered less ugly. The Triemli skyscraper is a typical example of the so-called Brutalism style from the 1960s. Many architects find it incomprehensible that, from today's perspective, this does not meet with widespread approval: Rudolf Guyer, the architect of the Triemli building, is quoted saying: "I don't care that amateurs find the building ugly. As long as the other architects like it." More than 50 years after its completion, Guyer is still proud of the skyscraper: "Of the 170 buildings we designed, it is one of the five best and is a witness to the architecture of the time."
