Celebrate the 20th Year of Cuesta Quest Community Celebration Event

This cache has been archived.

rragan: All the trackables have been picked up. Thanks. I'm archiving to clear this map area as it is frequently used and old event pins cloud the spotting. You can still log if you haven't yet. I'm glad you could all come and help celebrate.

Geocache Description:

30 October 2021, 11:00 - 13:00

Cuesta Quest (GC510) Anniversary Year

Location: Panera, 1035 El Monte Avenue, Mountain View

GC510 is the 8th oldest cache in Santa Clara county. It was hidden 3/21/2001 so this is it's 20th Anniversary year. That in itself is worth a celebration. For me, this cache has more meaning.  It was the first geocache I ever found almost 15 years ago (12/26/2006) so this will soon be an anniversary year for me as well. My log then said:

"This was my first geocache using my new GPS unit I got for Christmas. The cache contained the Dried Grape and Lost My Memory as well as the California Bound Kansas Sunshine Geocoin. I took the Geocoin to help it southward as it wants to go to San Diego."

I checked and the California Bound Kansas Sunshine Geocoin went missing in 2008 and never made it to San Diego but several local luminaries moved it along (50sumtin and jasmerb).

So turning the clock forward we see that Cuesta Quest has been kept alive by a number of folk. The list of previous owners is:

  • A and Joseph Ruff. (Creators) :Original cache owner info: 'A' is Andrew Naylor, the original owner. Joseph Ruff is the owner of another very old local cache GC148, The Dump.
  • Marky of Marky and Joani
  • Beckerbuns
  • southbayday (aka World's Worst Cacher) replaced it twice
  • Motorbug
  • wa11ace
  • rragan adopted it on 2/3/2020

Truly karma has taken me full circle. I'm proud to own the first geocache I ever found and want to thank the previous folk who helped keep it alive.

Stop by the event location which many of you know from our weekly lunch events (back when we could do those). The event will be outdoors unless it rains (but it never does that it seems).

If you have never found Cuesta Quest, you should go during the rest of it's anniversary year and find it.
