Who: Open to all geocachers, families, and anyone interested in geocaching.
What: A social get-together to meet fellow cachers, exchange stories, learn about different aspects of caching, swap TB's, oh yea, and some caching thrown in there too!  Lots of new cachers in the area recently.  Hope to meet some of you at the picnic.

Yes, really, 18 years!  We have grown from a small picnic with about 40 people to a mega event with 500+ for 5 years and back to a picnic for about 60 people.  We went from burgers and pot luck to a catered event and back to chicken and potluck.

Tropical storms or beautiful weather, we've had a picnic the last 17 years, most on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, so let's keep the tradition alive.

This year we will go back to Newport News Park.  The picnic shelter behind the Ranger Station just off Constitution Way in Newport News Park was a favorite last year so I hope to reserve it soon.  The website is not yet taking reservations.  We may need to relocate but I'll post announcements as needed.

This year, because of the challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over potluck/buffet style meals, we are asking that you bring your own picnic lunch.  So lets have some fun and friendly competition with it.  Show us your picnicking style.  Are you a gourmet picnicker?  Are you a traditionalist? Are you inventive?  Do you throw out paper plates and napkins or go with tablecloths and cutlery? What makes your picnic better than mine?  Show us what you got!  Prizes will be awarded....

Categories for Picnic Contest

Best Picnic Basket (Looking for style and functionality)

Most Stylish Picnic Fine dining at a picnic  (No paper plates, napkins and plastic utensils)

Best Blanket Picnic  (Spread a blanket and have a seat)

Best Gourmet Picnic  (Gourmet style food)

Only rule will be you can only take up enough space as needed for your group if you are using the parks picnic tables. 2 cachers=2 seats at the picnic table.  The shelter tables will not be available.  There are a couple tables in the area that will be first come first serve.  PLEASE BRING YOU OWN TABLE to set up outside the park shelter.

Please bring and wear your mask except while eating.  There will also be a prize for the best caching related mask.

Also, the bathrooms remain closed.  There are port-a-potties available.
