What a challenging time the last few years have been, I'm sure most of you will agree! But perhaps one of the good things to come out of this pandemic-time is a greater appreciation of community, and for me, the geocaching community is one of the best things around. I know for quite a few of us, community support was really helpful in dealing with the turbulence of the past few years. So I'd like to celebrate our geocaching community in this Community Celebration Event by holding an Secret Santa Picnic on Saturday December 10th, 2022, at 2:30 p.m in Teralba Park. Bring a plate to share! (I think it's safe to do that now...)
The Secret Santa part is optional, but if you'd like to participate, bring a wrapped gift of up to $20 value and pop it on the presents table. You'll be given a raffle ticket, and at 3:30pm, I'll call the ticket numbers out and you can come up and choose a gift. That way everyone who contributes is guaranteed to receive something, and nobody gets left out or forgotten. Plus, you could pick the gift you donated, making it a sneaky way to get the perfect geocaching present past your unsuspecting muggle partner!
Teralba Park is just north of Brookside, which means easy access by bus or train for anyone without a car, not to mention being an excellent place to find food if you don't want to bring a plate. Parking is available off Pullen Road, just north of the listed coordinates, plus all along the surrounding roads. There are bike paths all the way to Nundah, a multilevel playground set in a maze of vines and heaps of room for your rugrats to run around in, a parkour area, table tennis, a basketball half-court, Wi-Fi, a BMX facility, electric barbeques and facilities at GZ, and a few shelters, though you might wish to bring your own chairs and/or marquees. Plus, over 150 caches within 5 kilometres. Among others, you're also close to the famous Wingaap Way and in K8'n'Co territory, both hiders of great renown.
So bring a plate, and let's celebrate the geocaching community!
