Geocache Description:

04 December 2022, 12:00 - 14:00

Australia's 'Lowest' @ Brickpit Ring Walk + BBQ
Community Celebration Event

Location: Brickpit Ring Walk, Sydney Olympic Park

Additional Waypoint: Wentworth Common BBQ

Date: Sunday 4th December 2022

Time: 12pm - 1pm @ Brickpit Ring Walk (listed coordinates)

1pm - 2pm @ Wentworth Common BBQ (additional waypoint)

Why: A Celebration of Geocaching in our beautiful country! Techinally, this event also has the lowest elevation statistic out of any event ever held in Australia (-19m)

Despite this, you will be standing on a walkway that is 18.5 metres high, some people may even experience a fear of heights. Quite bizzare isn't it? Also just a fantastic location in general, filled with rich history, amazing views and a unique walk in an iconic Sydney location!

What to Bring: Bring your collectables and trackables to swap, walking shoes, refreshments and appropriate weather gear.

Also come prepared with your most interesting "Elevation" geocaching themed story to share. It could involve a mountain, a ladder, rope gear, a tall building, a mineshaft or even a submarine! The person who comes & tells me the most interesting story will get a small prize.

The second half of the event will consist of a BBQ in Wentworth Common, please refer to additional waypoint

Sausages & bread will be provided. Please BYO drinks.

Please log your "Will Attend" & state the number of people for catering purposes.

Other Things to Note:

Unfortunately No DOGS are allowed on the Ring Walk, they are welcome at the BBQ however

Bikes cannot be ridden on the Ring Walk, there are bike racks near both entrances to lock them up

The Ring Walk & BBQ are both Wheelchair accessible!

For this Community Celebration event I decided to opt for something a little bit different!
I have had a few ideas running around my head the past few years, so I have decided to combine them into this unique event!

Sydney Olympic Park does not usually allow any physical cache placements, however it holds a special place in my heart! My grandfather lives within walking distance of the park, so it is a familiar location to me. I also attended the 2000 Summer Olympics held here, but I was in a pram at the time and have no memory of it! So because of the lack of physical caches in this park, a Community Celebration seemed like a great fit!

The Brickpit was originally going to be developed into a Tennis Centre for the 2000 Summer Olympics, but thanks to the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frogs that were discovered to be living in the wetlands below, this development was halted. Instead this elevated ring walk was designed & constructed in 2005/2006!
