This is how it all started!
Moun10Bike created the first Geocoin when he wanted a signature item to celebrate finding his 100th geocache. The first geocoin he kept for his collection and placed the second geocoin in a geocache near Deception Pass, Washington. Now there are thousands of geocoins that have evolved after the first creation in 2001!
On September 30, 2001, Jon Stanley aka Moun10Bike set out with Jeremy to hunt down what is still to this day one of his most memorable caches, Light House Point (GC126C). As planned, he placed the first of the coins - #002 - into this cache to celebrate his 100th find milestone. Jeremy was just in the process of unveiling Travel Bugs on Geocaching.com and graciously offered to track the coins on the website using the numbers that were engraved in the coins.
