We were honoured to be selected by Groundspeak to host one of the Community Celebration Events. After much deliberation, we decided to host our event at the Reynolds Alberta Museum, located on the west side of Wetaskiwin, AB.
This event will happen on Saturday, September 25, 2021. The official event will run from 11:00am until 1:00pm, with some optional events happening during the afternoon for those who want to stick around for the day. Note: the museum recently informed us that they have decided to waive the admission fees for the museum for the entire weekend. So, if you choose to stick around to visit the museum after the event, you won't need to pay anything extra. The museum only asked that people still check in at the front reception desk, as they would like to keep track of how many visitors they had on that day. Please note that anyone who is planning to attend the optional events in the afternoon will need to follow all provincial COVID requirements.
Due to the recently imposed COVID restrictions, we will be meeting outside of the museum building, in an open area in front of the museum. There are benches there, but we would also encourage people to bring their own lawn chairs if they have some. We've chosen the event to run over the lunch hour, with the hope that people will bring their own lunches. The museum also has a cafeteria for those who would rather not bring their own food.
For those who are thinking of coming for just the event, here's the current plan:
- 11:00am - Arriving at the posted coordinates (start of the Community Celebration Event). Sign the event log book (or we can sign the log book for you), and start catching up with friends (old and new)
- ~11:30pm (or whenever everyone is ready) - start of the "bring your own bag" lunch, and catching up with friends (old and new). There is also a cafeteria available at the museum.
- 12:15pm - door prizes, and more catching up with friends (old and new - are you starting to see a trend here?)
- 12:45pm - scleaning up the area, group photo, and catching up with friends (old and new)
- 1:00pm - end of the Community Celebration Event. Feel free to stick around for some of the optional afternoon events, along with your "old" and "new" geocaching friends.
