Geocache Description:

26 March 2022, 11:00 - 13:00

Location: Howe Homestead Park 2950 Walnut Blvd, Walnut Creek, CA (Not Walnut Avenue!)
Date:  Saturday, March 26, 2022
Time:  11:00am - 1:00pm

Come celebrate Geocaching's 20 (22) Year anniversary! Well, better late than never.

Howe Homestead Park is a compact outdoor area featuring a walking trail & 48 gardening plots that residents can rent. A small picnic area and restroom is available on a first come, first serve basis, located in the central part of the park. This is the event location! There are several picnic tables, so bring something for lunch!

The park is the former home of James Howe, an Associated Press correspondent from the early 20th century. He was born in Kansas and traveled the world and reported on events such as the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 and World War 1, and interviewed many people who influenced the world including Stalin, King George V, and Gandhi. After retiring to Walnut Creek in 1935 he had the house remodeled and established his estate. He was a winemaker, breeder of pigeons, nut grower, gourmet, and collector.

There are several caches in the park and nearby along the Kovar Trail.
About 1 mile south on Walnut Blvd. is the Sutherland Entrance to the Shell Ridge Walnut Creek Open Space, which features many trails and caching opportunities.

Masks are recommended, but not mandatory.
