The Tribe Roadtrip 5ish: Hogsback and Gqeberha 2021 Event 2

The Tribe is on the road again. First it was Sani Pass in 2018, then Kaapsehoop in 2019, Midlands Meander 2019, then Umzumbe in 2020. We have since also had 2 trips to the Tugela falls, one overnight to the top and one up the gorge, but no events were held because we could barely walk afterwards.

This particular trip was planned and then postponed last year. We decided that our fifth official caching road trip would be held in PE, but unfortunately the Pandemic happened and the potential Mega was cancelled. We had already booked and planned some of the trip so a few members of the Tribe decided that the trip would still go ahead.

Each of the previous Roadtrip was chosen by a different caching team but this one was a joint effort by the Tribe as we are ALL in desperate need of a caching holiday.

Our adventures as a group have taken us to many incredible and beautiful places and we can’t wait to add Hogsback and Gqeberha to that list! Our group catch phrase is “Just over there”. At least that’s what we tell ourselves when the cache is on the next hill.

The Tribe Trips so far:

Sani 2018 hosted by GForceZA

The first Tribe Road trip was planned and coordinated by GForceZA . It was a trip up Sani Pass. A more adventurous trip we could not have planned. Due to a comedy of errors, we ended up changing plans and had the adventure of a lifetime. The original plan was to drive up Sani pass and have an event at the Highest Pub in Africa. The last winter snow had just occurred, and the pass was closed. We could not drive up so some of us decided to hike up and others decided to drive all the way around Lesotho and get to the Pub from the other side. The meal and drinks at the top made it totally worthwhile. Some of us made it, but had to hike back down, others didn’t make it passed Black Mountain so stayed further inland in Lesotho and some got stuck at the top of Sani and had to wait there for a few days until the snow melted and the pass was opened. But every one of us had the adventure of a lifetime and left with amazing stories to tell.

Kaapsehoop 2019 hosted by KrokosZA

The second Tribe road trip was to Kaapsehoop, Marloth Park, through Kruger, ending at Panarama. The Tribe is never far from fun and drama. The hike to the waterfalls that we never got to. It was  JUST over there! I promise...Orosman celebrating 2000 finds with a Tequila and a very cold night swim. Team DAandDI having a duet of accidents involving invisible glass doors and well hidden holes in the path. But again, amazing memories were made, many caches found and stories added to the bank.

Nothing Grander than A day on the Meander 2019

The third Tribe trip was to attend the incredible Nothing grander than a day on the Meander event with its Pokemon battles, philosophical discussions with a skull, and THAT BRIDGE, oh that bridge. ...I wonder if they got it. There were some amazing cache containers. What an adventure from start to finish! Again, life long memories and stories to tell.

Umzumbe 2020 hosted by DAandDI

Then it was time for the beach after the indoor Covid holiday. The Tribe needed a beach holiday and Umzumbe was a piece of heaven. Sunrises, sunsets, magical unicorn floaties in the sea, octopus encounters and lots of shenanigans. Another amazing trip with many caches to add to the memory bank.

Tugela Falls 2020

Tugela falls saw us hiking up the chain ladders on a very windy November day and Camping at the top of the falls. It was a bucket list trip for most of us and words cannot desciribe the sense of accomplishement we all had when we found that cache at the top. Under the careful guideance of Orosman, we managed to find some amazing caches along the way. The views seemed to be from another world and we were all awestruck by the beauty.

Tugela Gorge April 2021

Following our Tugela Falls trip, we decided that the gorge needed to be done too so we planned the trip and before we knew it, we had a big group of 20 odd cachers on the road. The Hike was streneous but the views made it totally worth it. Another unbelievabe experience with awesome caches found on the way.

Hogsback and Gqeberha

And so brings us to the trip that has been 2 years in the planning. Hogsback is the first stop. A dream for many of us. That will be our first event for this trip. GC code to follow. Waterfall hikes and fairy caches await us. Then onto Gqeberha for some epic hikes, caches and sea air.
