Geocache Description:

In April 1975, a group of interested citizens met in the Ashley County Courthouse for the purpose of organizing an historical society with a goal of obtaining a museum for Ashley County. A non-profit organizational charter and by-laws were established, and the Ashley County Historical Society pursued the possibility of obtaining the David E. Watson home as the future Ashley County Museum. The society was able to get the Watson House listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1978. This made the society eligible for a grant of matching funds to assist in the purchase of the home. Plastic ammo box
