Geocache Description:

Geodetic Marker at KRC

Survey markers, also called survey marks, survey monuments, survey benchmarks, geodetic marks, are objects placed to mark key survey points on the Earth's surface. They are used in geodetic and land surveying. Informally, such marks are referred to as benchmarks, although strictly speaking the term benchmark is reserved for marks that indicate elevation. Horizontal position markers used for triangulation are also known as triangulation stations.

A triangulation station, is a fixed surveying station, used in geodetic surveying and other surveying projects in its vicinity. The station is usually set up by a government with known coordinates and elevation published. Many stations are located on hilltops for the purposes of visibility. A graven metal plate on the top of a pillar may provide a mounting point for a theodolite or reflector.
