This geocache is hidden in the Lacawac Sanctuary. The Lacawac Sanctuary is comprised of 545 acres of preserved and protected land along part of the northern shore of Lake Wallenpaupack. The Lacawac Sanctuary’s hiking trails are open to the public from sunrise to sunset. There is a portable toilet located near the parking coordinates.
This geocache is not hidden at the above coordinates. They are for a starting location in the parking lot near the trailhead for the Maurice Broun Trail. Follow this trail and then take The Ledges Trail and continue on past the Deer Exclosure towards the final coordinates.
Once upon a time there was a frog. He lived in the Lacawac Sanctuary. He wanted to go to school and learn things, but he didn’t know how to get there. One day while he was sitting on a rock he saw a man walk by. The man was talking into this weird device he was holding by his mouth. The man was saying something about numbers. Oh, how I wish I knew about numbers thought the frog. The man was saying something about adding the first 6 prime numbers together. The frog was sad as he didn’t even know what a prime number was. The man told whoever he was talking to on that weird device that he was leaving now and would be at school in 22 minutes. He was going to take State Route 518 as it was the quickest way. The frog heard another voice coming from that weird device. The other voice said something about having to hurry as he would be late to school. Hmm, thought the frog, that man is going to a school. That’s where people learn things. That’s where I want to learn things. So the frog jumped into the small bag the man was carrying and hid. The man didn’t see the frog and had no idea he was in his bag. The man got in his car and drove away. Wow, thought the frog, I’ve never been in a car. This was fun. He had hopped out of the man’s pocket and jumped over the seat and was sitting on the ledge near the back window. The frog had never traveled that fast before. He enjoyed looking at everything through the car window. Pretty soon he saw this other car with flashing red lights following. The man had stopped the car on the side of the road. Hmm, thought the frog, I wonder what is going on. A really tall man got out of the car with the red flashing lights and came over to the car he was in. The tall man had a really deep voice and said “Sir, did you know that you were speeding. You were driving 75 miles per hour.” After some talking between the two men, the man in the car said he was a school teacher and he had 17 students waiting for him back at the school to go on a field trip. The tall man said “Sir, that’s no excuse. Driving excessive speeds is hazardous for all. I am giving you this speeding ticket. The fines are itemized for your convenience. You can either pay the fine in total or go to court and contest the ticket. The man took the paper from the tall one with the deep voice. The man looked at the paper and said “Oh, no. How am I ever going to afford this? $300 speeding fee, $81 administrative fee, $100 state surcharge, and a highway assessment fee of $200.” Wow, thought the frog. He felt sorry for the man. He had no idea how much money that was, but the man didn’t seem very happy. The frog thought about it and decided that he didn’t want to go to school to learn things anymore. He wanted to go back to his frog pond and just sit around and catch bugs to eat.
