The cache is located outside of the property (P&G). No need to get inside unless you feel a little bit more adventurous and want to explore this place further. If you are brave enough, you are in for a treat, because you will never guess what is below the grounds of this mysterious and marvelous place.
At first glance, it appears to be a deserted house like any other. But if you’re curious enough to take a closer look, you’ll discover the remains of something much much bigger.
Near the abandoned house lie the ruins of the first water bottling plant in Puerto Rico. The Mansión Levy (Levy Mansion) complex, also known as La Rambla, was built in 1932 by engineer and architect Don Francisco Levy González. The original goal was to open it as a hotel and casino, but such plans never came to fruition.
Eventually, a new business venture surfaced and the building became a water bottling factory thanks to a natural spring nearby, known as Santa Rosa. The building is connected to the spring by a series of bridges and channels in what was a unique engineering marvel in the Caribbean. It is believed that the factory is also connected by a system of tunnels leading to several locations in the town of Lares. It is said that approximately for the year 1940, water was sold to the town of Lares with the seal of La Rambla and that people from towns as far as San Juan, Ponce and Mayagüez traveled to Lares to buy the water from the spring which some say has curative powers.
Like other historic locations around the island, Levy Mansion has its own myths and legends. One of them (among many others) tells of a group of men in search of a place to erect a church. Eventually, they agreed to build it over the natural spring, unaware of the water’s existence. A woman in the group warned them about the spring, explaining that any structure built over it would be destroyed. According to the group’s leader, who was a Franciscan friar, she was an angel of God. She also said that the place shall be known as La Rambla and the spring as Santa Rosa. Afterward, the woman vanished and left behind her green halo before the spring burst with water. The legend claims that today, the halo still hovers over the spring at night.
A few years ago, the municipal government of Lares acquired the property with the intention of fulfilling Levy’s original vision of a hotel and casino. But not much progress has been made since then, probably due to the lingering economic crisis that was furthered by Hurricane María in 2017. Today, the site remains abandoned, although construction equipment can be seen scattered all over the place and some renovations seem to be performed. It’s hard to tell when renovations will resume, but in the meantime, the empty Levy Mansion and the remains of the groundbreaking factory await any curious explorers.

A primera vista, parece ser una casa desierta como cualquier otra. Pero si tienes la curiosidad de mirar más de cerca, descubrirás los restos de algo mucho mucho más grande.
Cerca de la casa abandonada, se encuentran las ruinas de la primera planta de embotellado de agua en Puerto Rico. El complejo de la Mansión Levy, también conocido como La Rambla, fue construido en 1932 por el ingeniero y arquitecto Don Francisco Levy González. El objetivo original era abrirlo como hotel y casino, pero tales planes nunca se concretaron.

Una mujer del grupo les advirtió sobre la existencia del manantial, explicando que cualquier estructura construida sobre ella sería destruida. Según el líder del grupo, que era un fraile franciscano, ella era un ángel de Dios. También dijo que el lugar se conocerá como La Rambla y el manantial como Santa Rosa. Después, la mujer desapareció y dejó su halo verde antes de que el manantial estallara con agua. La leyenda dice que hoy, el halo todavía se cierne sobre el manantial durante la noche.
Hace unos años, el gobierno municipal de Lares adquirió la propiedad con la intención de cumplir con la visión original de Levy de convertirlo en un hotel y casino. Pero desde entonces no se han realizado muchos progresos, probablemente debido a la persistente crisis económica que el huracán María provocó en 2017. Hoy, el sitio sigue abandonado, aunque se pueden ver equipos de construcción dispersos por todo el lugar y algunas renovaciones recientes. Es difícil saber cuándo se reanudarán las renovaciones, pero mientras tanto, la Mansión Levy vacía y los restos de la innovadora fábrica esperan a cualquier explorador curioso.
