Geocache Description:


Evergreen Cemetary holds an interesting history of its eternal residents.  One such resident is the final resting place of General Joseph Bailey, US Army. Born May 6, 1825 and died March 21, 1867.  An American Civil War Vetern, famous for his creative applications of dam building during the Red River Campaign and Battles in Louisiana from March 10 1864 to May 22, 1864.  Remains of his log dams are still often found today.  After the War, Gen Bailey moved to Nevada, Missouri with his wife Mary and was elected Veron County Sheriff in 1865.  While arresting two brothers and other former Bushwhackers for sealing a Pig. General Bailey was shot and killed by the outlaws.  One was caught and lynched but the brothers got away and never brought to justice dispite a $3,000 reward on thier capture ($47,000) in todays value.  General Bailey was buried with Military and Masonic honors in Fort Scott National Cemetary and later inturned at Evergreen to rest beside his wife on the family plot.  The coords will bring you to the cache, but while there find and pay respect to General Bailey for his Military and Civil Duties as the Sheriff of Veron County Missouri whom was killed in the line of duty.
