Background
The Grassle Marsh Trail is dedicated to Fred and Judy Grassle, two distinguished nationally and internationally renowned marine scientists. It is located within the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve (JC NERR), one of the 29 National Estuarine Research Reserves created to promote the responsible use and management of the nation's estuaries through a program combining scientific research, education, and stewardship.
Not surprisingly, this all has a personal side to it - Jacques Cousteau is the primary reason for my career choice, I was Fred Grassle's last undergraduate student, and, of course, this is all tied into Rutgers as well. This trail (and even this cache) are just small tributes to a great man with an incredible legacy. Fred was well liked, his leadership well respected, and he has been missed since his passing.
The Cache
This is a fairly quick two stage multi. Stage 1 is located near the trailhead; between the bench and dog waste basket. A very typical container for me, if you're familiar with my hides. Stage 2 will bring you further down the trail, not far from a walkway out into the marsh. Count your blessings now; I nearly placed it out in the marsh under the walkway...but decided I didn't want people trampling the vegetation we're working to preserve. Please replace everything as you found it, and take some time to read the signs on the way in and out. The trail will loop around, so you can continue on after you've found the cache. Difficulty may be a bit overrated...or it may not be. 
Grassle Marsh Trail is open to the public all year long, from dawn until dusk.
