The Florida RR, in order to more easily integrate with the efforts of the Santa Fe Canal Co., ran a spur from the depot (still existing) down along the embankment of dirt created from the dredging of the canal. Nearly 3/4 of a mile in length, trains had adequate room to back down from the mainline onto the embankment, load produce and passengers, and then pull ahead to begin the journey to Jacksonville or Gainesville.
