👑 Medb 👑 Mystery Cache

Forget all about your Daenerys Targaryen because the formidable Queen Medb of Connacht (above) would have dominated the Iron Throne and made 10 of that Daenerys woman. A remarkable woman was our Queen Maedbh who stood a mere fifty four inches tall but her stature on the battlefield was unmatched by man or woman.  She was born in fourteen AD and she ruled for thirty years. And then, between her battles she bore seven sons and a daughter. She outshone Henry the Eight and his six wives by having at least eight husbands, maybe more, as they kept dying in battle. She was never short of a suitor either.

She named all of her seven sons Maine but her one and only daughter ‘Findabair’ had her own unique name. Queen Medb was buried “standing up” so that she could keep her eye on her approaching enemies. Her burial place is a thirty three foot high stone cairn on the summit of nearby Knocknarea, or in Irish Cnoc na Rí which is quite rightly named the Hill of the Queen.
