With the lighthouse being constructed in 1840, it was also suggested that a house for the keeper be built nearby while tending to the lighthouse.  The specifications were for a cellar 36 feet long by 26 feet wide and 8 feet deep, with a principal storey 9 feet high and with two gables.  With years passing and no home in sight, the keeper had a petition read in 1844 before the Assembly of Upper Canada, “praying for a dwelling house”.  Finally, a house was built by James Sutherland two years later.

How many years did the keeper have to wait til a house was built?

A.  3 years      N 44 02.354  W 077 41.148

B.  8 years      N 44 02.294  W 077 41.055
