The beacon of light….it sure has evolved over more than a 1000 years.  Today a simple 500 watt red airport beacon keeps the lighthouse bright way up at the top!  There has been many challenges by the keepers to keep the “light” at top visible.  Burning wood sometimes created too much smoke, then masking the actual light or on heavy days of rain, causing the fire to go out.  Various types of oil were used.  One was the smokeless oil lamp.  It worked well but produced a weaker flame.  Then reflectors were introduced to intensify the light.  Finally, upgrades to have the lighthouse fitted with electricity.  What year was the Presqu’ile lighthouse converted to electricity?
