När tidigare läkaren i Storuman Gunnar Hjernestam blev utnämnd till hedersdoktor vid Umeå universitetssjukhus 1996. Personalen på att ordna med byggnadslov och sätta upp en skylt med "universitetssjukstugan" medan han var bortrest. 2014 har sjukstugan i Storuman utvecklats till ett glesbygdsmedicinskt centrum.
