Geocache Description:

Cache is located just off of Interstate 35E at a greenbelt area on the University of North Texas Campus within sight of the Apogee Football Stadium.  The undulating terrain at GZ is from its’ previous life many years ago as the University golf course.

Cache container is a green bison tube located in a tree and is visible from the ground during the winter.  Might be more difficult to spot in the summer when the canopy is green.

As for the climb, from the ground up to the first limb is about 10 feet so a TOTT is needed.  After that there are some parts that can be free climbed.  However, there are a couple of places where there will be a significant stretch between limbs that might require suitable gear or TOTT.

When I hid this cache I used my tree climbing gear, including harness, rope, lanyard, ascenders, carabiners, pulleys, etc.  From ground to the container and back down to the ground I was tied into the tree 100 percent of the time.   Note the “Climbing gear required” attribute.

The cache title MEDUSA

From the ground looking up into the canopy of this tree during winter the branches looked like writhing snakes, which inspired the name MEDUSA.

In Greek Mythology:

Medusa was one of the three Gorgons (female monsters who could kill people just by looking at them).  A beautiful mortal, Medusa was the exception until she incurred the wrath of Athena, either due to her boastfulness or because of an ill-fated love affair with Poseidon.  Transformed into a vicious monster with snakes for hair, she was killed by Perseus, who afterward used her still potent head as a weapon, before gifting it to Athena.

All of Medusa’s siblings were monsters by birth and even though she was not, she had the misfortune of being turned into the most hideous of them all.  Poets claimed that she had a great boar-like tusk and tongue lolling between her fanged teeth.  Writhing snakes were entwining her head in place of hair.  Her face was so hideous and her gaze so piercing that the mere sight of her was sufficient to turn a man to stone.
