... και ίσως μπορούν να βοηθήσουν λιγάκι με τη συντήρηση όλων των ωραίων geocache που υπάρχουν στην Κρήτη!

The geocaching community on Crete makes every effort to ensure that geocaching lovers from all over the world find the more than 1,500 geocaches on Crete in good condition.
The oldest active geocache in Crete dates from 2003, but many others are waiting for all of you in their hiding places for many years.
Sure, that the logbooks will eventually be full or that a can of old age cracks and the logbook will get wet. Sometimes cans disappear for some reason.
It is also clear that the owners take care that only beautiful geocaches that are intact are waiting for the visitors here on the island. However, you will see that Crete is a huge island and lots of geocaches can only be reached after a long hike or after a long ride with the car. So it may take some time before the owner can schedule the maintenance.
It is therefore always appreciated if geocachers who are already on the go have a few spare parts with them and can offer "Maintenance Assistance" if necessary.
Some of these items can be very helpful just in case:

petlings with suitable logbooks or paper rolls (alternatively: empty plastic tablet tubes, e.g. of vitamin tablets)

film cans with matching log stripes (can also be made by yourself)

small plastic container
-
normal small logbooks
This way you will be able to give maintenance assistance, if a logbook is full or wet or if a container has been broken.

PPS: I got the idea for this cache, when within three days I gave maintenance assistance to seven geocaches of different owners which did not pass very well their hibernation in the Cretan mountains …

Die Geocaching-Community auf Kreta bemüht sich redlich, dass die Geocache-Freunde aus aller Welt die mehr als 1500 Geocaches auf Kreta in einem guten Zustand vorfinden, wenn sie sie finden.
Der älteste noch aktive Geocache auf Kreta stammt aus dem Jahr 2003, aber auch viele andere erwarten ihre Besucher schon seit vielen Jahren in ihren Verstecken .
Klar, dass Logbücher dann irgendwann auch einmal voll sind oder dass mal eine Dose altersschwach Risse bekommt und das Logbuch feucht wird. Bisweilen verschwinden auch Dosen aus irgendwelchen Gründen.
Klar ist auch, dass die Owner sich darum kümmern, dass hier auf der Insel möglichst nur schöne Geocaches, die intakt sind, auf die Besucher warten. Doch sind eine ganze Reihe von Dosen nur nach langer Anreise oder nach einer längeren Wanderung zu erreichen. Da kann es schon mal dauern, bis der Owner die Maintenance einplanen kann.
Daher ist es immer ganz toll, wenn Geocacher, die ohnehin unterwegs sind, ein paar Ersatzteile dabei haben und bei Bedarf „Maintenance Assistance“ (Wartungsunterstützung) bieten können.
Beispielsweise folgende Ersatzteile sind im Falle eines Falles auf jeden Fall nützlich:
So habt Ihr immer etwas parat, falls mal ein Logbuch voll oder nass ist oder wenn eine Dose altersschwach zerbrochen ist.
… und hier geht es zur Dose dieses Mysteries:
In der Aufzählung, was alles zur Wartungsunterstützung hilfreich sein kann, gibt es einige rote Buchstaben. Bildet aus diesen Buchstaben einen geografischen Ort und übersetzt ihn ins Englische.

PPS: Die Idee zu diesem Cache kam mir, als ich im Februar 2020 in den kretischen Bergen innerhalb von drei Tagen bei sieben Dosen verschiedener Owner Winterschäden beseitigen konnte …
