พระพุทธรูปพระพุทธมิ่งมงคลเอกนาคคีรีซึ่งชาวฝรั่งรู้จักกันในนาม“ พระใหญ่” ของภูเก็ตเป็นพระพุทธรูปนั่ง มันกว้าง 25.45 เมตร (83 ฟุต 5 นิ้ว) และสูง 45 เมตร (147 ฟุต 7 นิ้ว) โครงสร้างทำจากคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็กประดับด้วยหินอ่อนหยกขาวจากอดีตพม่า หินอ่อนหยกขาวมีน้ำหนักประมาณ 135 ตันต่อ 2,500 ตร.ม. (26910 ตารางฟุต) รูปปั้นนี้ก่อตั้งขึ้นบนยอดเขา Nagakerd ตำบลกะรนจังหวัดภูเก็ต

ENGLISH :
Phraphutthamingmongkhol-akenagakhiri Buddha, known by Farangs as Phuket’s “Big Buddha”, is a seated Buddha statue. It is 25.45 meters (83 ft 5 in.) wide and 45 meters (147 ft 7 in.) high. Its structure, made of reinforced concrete, is adorned with white jade marble from former Burma. The weight of the white jade marble is approximately 135 tons per 2,500 sq.m. (26910 sq. ft). The statue was established on the top of Mount Nagakerd, Subdistrict Karon, Phuket Province.
Visitors are given the opportunity to contribute to the completion of the buddha by purchasing jade facing stones which will be cemented onto the statue.
Two types of jade, exist, nephrite and jadeite, as evidenced in 1863 by French mineralogist Alexis Damour (1808-1902). From then on, the interest of Asians in nephrite (which had played a part in the history of Asia for over 7000 years) moved to jadeite.
Myanmar in former Burma is the world’s most important source of jadeite. On the other hand, the main source of nephrite is located in British Columbia (Canada).
