Fleming Fine Furniture was a local business founded in 1946 by Partee Fleming, a graduate of Humes High School and Vanderbilt University, where he played football and wrestled. Partee was a lifelong accomplished Memphian who wrote three books, finished 2nd in the 1959 mayoral election, and held a U.S. Patent (number 2,496,087 for those scoring at home) for something called an Aerial Train.
Unfortunately, Fleming Furniture went out of business in 2002, but not before 4 generations of Flemings were able to grace the Memphis airwaves with what it was best known for: hokey commercials with the Fleming kids!
But before there was TV, there was a thing called a newspaper, which is a thing people used to read to catch up on all of the news from the day before. Can you imagine? Much like our phones of today though, the newspaper was also filled with catchy ads trying to get your attention, like this old Fleming's one.
