Geocache Description:

Third in a series of caches around the village of Mathern [Merthyr Tewdrig].

This track from the old Wesleyan Chapel (erected 1832) at the end of Chapel Lane near Pwllmeyric Hill to the centre of the village at Mathern was one of the main routes into the village for many years. Known affectionately as ‘Snakey Lane’, it runs along the boundary of the Wyelands Estate and commands lovely views over Mathern to the Severn Estuary and the Prince of Wales Bridge. It is believed to be called ‘Snakey Lane’, not because it is particularly bendy but because it used to be known for its population of snakes! They have since long disappeared . . . . but you never know!

You are looking for a small camouflaged container.

There are a number of stiles to cross along Snakey Lane as you follow the Mathern Trail to the next cache in the series. Along Snakey Lane is a line of beech trees known as ‘Cooper’s Brake’ and to the South, Snakey Lane is separated from Wyelands by the wall of the estate and eventually becomes Arnold’s lane.

Please also be aware that at certain times of the year there will be livestock present in the adjacent fields and along to route of the lane. Please keep dogs on a lead and observe the Country Code.
