Railway overbridge and Christchurch Southern Motorway stage one.
At GZ there is a plaque commemorating the opening of Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 1. This is part of the Blenheim Road to Halswell Road link and was opened on 26 October 1979. Since then there have been a number of changes including the current extension which will take you to Rolleston when completed. It's note possible for me to count the number of time I have crossed here in the care but have walked across it twice befor and don't remember seeing the plaque before.
The overbidge crosses the southern railway line that head to invercargill and branches off to the West Coast. At GZ if you look over the Side you will see a disused branch line to a local business.
Please park in McAlpine Street and even during a week day there is usually parking available and from here it is a short walk on the foot path to the plaque and the cache is reached from the foot path. Be careful with children as the road is often very busy. The path can be popular with trainspotters so keep an eye out.
