Geocaching is free. Of course we all know that.
However to get the most out of the game people will usually need to spend a little money here and there.
One of the expenditure lines is for Tools of The Trade aka TOTTs.
There are many of these ranging from things which help you to solve puzzles, project coordinates, or to access a GZ or a cache at a GZ. Some caches can not be accessed without a specific TOTT. And sometimes this requirement is reflected in either or both of the D and T ratings.
This series contains caches which you will probably find easier with one or more TOTTs. Whether it is working out the final location or accessing the cache once there, there will be something where a TOTT will help. But part of the fun is that we won't necessarily tell you in advance which TOTT you might need. Of course this may not be a problem for the experienced cacher. But for newer ones some of these might open new windows of opportunities.
This is #07 in the series. It is an unknown cache and it has a puzzle - a field puzzle.
*PLEASE NOTE* The field puzzle has been changed as of early 2021. See below for the current version.
Maybe a TOTT or two will help you solve it?
We wanted a safe place for our powder coated steel strongbox. There was a local watchman located nearby for some time. Before he left we asked him for advice regarding security and he suggested embedding our strongbox in a wall of solid rock to provide added security. However walls of rock are not easy to find at this GZ, so we chose an alternative method to make access more challenging.
Your tasks?
1: First you will need to retrieve the locked steel strongbox.
2: Then you will need to find the key to open it and access the logbook. The key is 35.13 metres from the strongbox.
3: Then you will need to replace everything as found please.
Each step will almost certainly need at least one TOTT.
To find the key you will search in a cardinal direction.
If the box is yellow go north
If the box is red go west
If the box is white go east
If the box is black go south
Please be aware that while this entire park is all shared use, Adelaide City Council recommends people do not walk through a paddock with horses in it. They are usually only in one of the paddocks at any one time. There should always be an empty paddock to use as a path to get to any spot in between paddocks.
Please be careful not to break any of your TOTTs, the strongbox, or yourself!
