HAS = 100 of Historical Architectures Series.
The "100 of Historical Architectures Series" are one hundred historical buildings selected by the Cultural Construction Committee of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China in 2001. The activity was first selected by all counties and cities handle the ten scenic spots in Aug. 2001. At that time, there were 25 districts in the administrative division, so 250 scenic spots should be selected. The Dong'an Bridge across the Niulan River is a five-hole stone masonry arch bridge with a structure and aesthetics. It was built in 1933 to connect the Guanxi township with Dong'an county. Dong'an Bridge was originally a wooden bridge. Whenever a flash flood erupted, traffic was interrupted. Locals therefore proposed the construction of a bridge, which was designed by a local gentry to hire a Japanese technician and handed over to the well-known local mason Li Zhen. The masonry was still intact after decades of use, showing its superb engineering skills and quality. It is a historical witness for the construction of transportation in the Kansai region, and also a representative of bridge facilities in the county. In particular, the bridge is located in the hydrophilic space of Niulan River, adding value to sightseeing.
